Savings Without Sacrifice

A customer in the medical supply industry needed to implement cost-cutting measures and looked to product components. The goal was to replace a costly stainless-steel part with a more economical counterpart without sacrificing quality. The problem, however, went beyond cost, as the part contained a critical area with exacting tolerances. GemTech’s extensive experience with engineering resins was key in pairing the perfect material to the part before engineering the new mold. The cost of the part dropped from several hundred dollars to a few dollars each.

A large electronics supplier presented GemTech® with a puzzle: how to produce a cost-effective component that could hold a stabilizing agent under high heat without warping. GemTech’s elegant solution involved a precisely engineered mold for a component with critical supports that was injected with a specialized resin selected for extra strength and rigidity.

A global avionics manufacturer had shopped a custom mold literally around the world but had not found a mold maker with the capability to handle the critical dimensional stability required for the project.
